Telescope views of Saturn the Sun and Moon Terrace BC

Uploaded by: redshift40
Video Description:
Some photos and video I have taken from by back yard in Terrace BC. All photos and video are hand held, unguided shots through a custom made 12.5" Newt/Dob telescope.(the mirror is from www.galaxyoptics.com)
Close-ups were taken through a 5mm Pentax SMC XW-5 eyepiece. The camera doesn't do justice to what you see live at the eyepiece, but I hope you still like the view...
Song is a Stevie Ray Vaughn-Guitar Tribute -Live - G3. Eric Clapton, Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Beck, Steve Morse...

Array ( 8 months ago by redshift40)
It was at 305x.
I used a 5mm Pentax SMC XW eyepiece and a Canon A-70 camera. The mirror is a f4.8 - 60" focal length.
I get this scope up to 610x one or two nights a year. Seeing has been horrible the past 6 months here.

How can we view the dark side of the moon??? Is it always dark or does in change???
There are many ... ( 8 months ago by redshift40)
There are many photos and programs to view the dark side. It is also not dark all the time, we just don't see "the dark side" as the moon is locked in the same rotational speed as earth.

Really great videos by the way!!!!
So there is a way from earth to see the other half of the moon???
I enjoyed the UFO video you posted and commented on it, how I got caught up in alot of the UFO vids on here. And after using a simple camcorder, I had and zoomed in on the brightest object I found in the sky, and what I saw was what 75% of the UFO vid's look like.
So what do you think about that guy Leonard Walson's shots of the moon and other objects??

LW photos are a hoax.
You use a filter ... ( 7 months ago by sloppyjotbone08)
You use a filter over the end of the scope to block out most of the sun's radiation so it doesn't burn the shit out of your eyes. If you looked at it through a telescope without a filter your optics would be fried and you would be blind.

If you have time, ... ( 4 months ago by tjsage79)
If you have time, can you give me some advice on purchasing a telescope. I have been looking on ebay and want something to see the moon close up as well as saturns rings ect. thanks
The best advice I ... ( 4 months ago by redshift40)
The best advice I can give you is, get the biggest aperture that you can afford. The bigger the better. If you can handle allot of weight, get a 8-12" Newt/Dob. If storage space is an issue, get a 4-6" refractor. Don't buy anything that came from a large retail store. Get name brands like Meade, Orion, Celestron ect... Get the best quality eyepieces you can. Look for EP's with long eye-relief in 25-30-mm, a 10-14mm and a high power 7-5mm EP. Getting a barlow (2x) will double your EP's.
Thanks alot,,,I ... ( 4 months ago by tjsage79)
Thanks alot,,,I have to find some time to shop around. I guess I should order it from the internet since I cant find any quality stores that sell them??
In many ads Ive been reading it mentions something about seeing nebulas and galaxies, how accurate is that???
You can see some ... ( 4 months ago by redshift40)
You can see some galaxies and nebulas with a pair of binos. It is best to learn what is where in the night sky first with your eyes then get a good set of binos.

Beautiful, thanks for posting. unfortunately i am from india, a country where people think it is astrology that really matters and not astronomy.
For that last 9 years I have been searching all over the country for any shop that sells telescopes. No luck, as yet. So far the only 'telescope' I have been able to find is a spy-glass made to look as if it is antique. LOL. I was so desperate finally i made one myself using a PVC tube and a mirror and instructions from the web.
