The Jam - Going Underground TOTP

Uploaded by: dagooch
Video Description:
Great song from those snot-nosed kids out of Woking. How many bands this young nowadays can write a song like this? Didn't think so. Bassist Bruce Foxton providing cardboard stage-presence.

the apron has to be a pop at the often mainstream content of TOTP - he had a tracks of my years on the ken bruce show on Radio 2 and picked the music they played in the asylum in one flew over the cukoos nest - and the played it! And he doesnt laugh much...

Sorry Bootjangler mate but lets not even try to compare Slade to The Jam! lol...Don't remember Slade going straight in at no.1 twice butr if anyone can confirm it I'll accept it begrudgingly...
'Cum on feel' the noize is just not in the same league as 'Going Underground' though is it? And they were scruffy fuckers with unnecessarily overgrown sideburns too! lol...

Oh I don't know. Slade were my choice in their day, but got too commercial and played up on Noddy's shouting. But if you listen closely there is great bass and guitar going on. Something I didn't realise at the time.
'How Does it Feel' is a master record and came much, much later than their chart success. How does it go? Slade, The Jam, The Smiths, Stone Roses, Oasis.....

If I remember rightly, TOTP wouldnt let them play live, so Weller basically said 'Bollocks, I'll chew gum to show that it's synced, did the same with Town Called Malice/Precious (Only double A side to play both on TOTP.

No, They Couldnt Play Live. Not enough technology. Srsly He Hated that. so when he played other songs, like a town called malice, in the middle he sung eton rifles instead. =D . he got revenge. >=-D

Slade and The Jam both went straight in at No.1 three times each. Both were on Polydor label (in the UK at least)too. This was a double A side with 'Dreams of Children'. When they did 'Malice' with 'Precious' on TOTP it was first time since the Beatles that a group played both sides of a No.1 on the same show.
