I know a lot of people are going to get really riled up by this but it's what happened and I'm telling it because I think it's the right thing to do and I think travelers (especially youtubian travelers) should know and be prepared for the possibility of what happened to me happening to them also if they are thinking of traveling to the states in today's world.
Judging alone by the tons of mails I have received from travelers all over the globe since telling me stories that in some cases are much worse then my own, it is clear to me this is not some freak isolated incident. And that is sad. I realize Homeland Security have an important job to do. All I ask.. and I think you should ask.. is that they DO that job thoroughly and with respect to their fellow human beings. The two officers that dealt with me did not. This is mostly about those officers.. NOT America. I'm not anti-american. I am anti-idiocy. My case needs to be reviewed and looked over by Homeland Security. I will not give up until this happens.
Some super happy US travel tips by Dan:
- Memorize phone numbers of loved ones.
- Keep your e-mails censored from all forms of joking, sarcasm or riddles at least 12 months before travel. If someone mails you with any of the above delete them immediately.
- Make sure you have "permanant ties" to your nation before you leave it. Find out and be sure of what a "permanent tie" is and is not before departure.
- Do not film squat toilets in Japanese airports just because you think they look funny. This is considered odd behavior.
- Leave your laptop at home.
- Be aware that if you are meeting someone while in the US you've never met before in real life and have only known through other means (such as telephone, email & You Tube) this is considered highly suspicious and it will be deemed that you "do not know" the person and they are "not your friend" if you have not actually physically met them before.
- Bring more then one copy of your ATM receipts proving your bank account balance.. one may get "lost" unexpectedly.
- Do not wear pants on the plane that require a belt to hold them up..

Well for heavens sake! He has to be able to stand up for his rights and speak up if he has been unjustly treated. I've been corresponding a bit and he doesn't sound the least bit prejudiced against Americans. I have felt hurt by some biting comments made by other Aussies on YouTube, but DrLemur is not one of them. When someone hurts my feelings I just have to remind myself that there are more of the 20 million people like him who are worth travelling across the ocean to spend a year with!

Yeah they don't let people in from ALLIED countries. It's bad enough the UK is stuck in a "Special relationship" with America, the public got NO SAY or CHOICE in the matter. The government and homeland security are just out of order on every level. Much like you, I have decided that soon I am going to fly to Canada instead of the USA, I was considering both, but with the stupidly unjustified reasons they
detained you with, I or anyone else could easily be detained. Good luck with saving for CA.

Maybe it's partly the fact that my whole family has been on this website for the better part of two years and none of us have ever been known to be anything but honest people. There is no reason to lie about any of this stuff and doing so I'd imagine would be a serious offense. I've proven my story to the people I need to and who can actually help. That's all that matters.

Here is what strikes me odd about your story... here in the US people who are so sick that they need to be on disability don't have the kind of money you need to do any international traveling. And if they were capable of doing all that traveling, they surely aren't so sick that they can't work. And if you can't work in your country, why did you apply for a visa to work here?

I didn't apply for a Visa in the US, I merely looked into what would be involved in that process. I also did not have the money to be doing any traveling which is why the majority of it was borrowed money. If you watch my later videos my motivations for the trip may become slightly clearer.

True, you didn't apply for the visa but you did look into obtaining a work permit even though you claim that in your own country you are unable to work. Don't you see how that in itself makes your story less credible?

Not at all since at the time I looked into that I wasn't on government benefits and was actually working. That aside, I'm not really interested in what makes my story "look" more or less credible in as much as I am interested in telling the truth about what happened. The US government will have to answer for what they did and the half-assedness in which the "investigation" was carried out.

Hey, I'm just saying that it was obviously a judgement call on their part and their decision was probably influenced on how you presented yourself. If I were in that position I might make the same call... I can understand how it could happen. You said you were disheveled, had nothing in writing as to where you were staying, held no job, and when questioned couldn't even show your account on youtube where you said you have met all these people. There are 2 sides to every story.

I followed all the rules outlined by the government upon departure. It's their problem they didn't take the effort to get my You Tube site looked at. I don't have a problem so much with what they did as much as that now I have a permanent ban from the US for doing nothing wrong and have no way of seeing my girlfriend. If mistakes are made they should be rectified whatever government makes them.
