I just upgraded from a Logitech 4000 to the 9000 last week because a guy at work bought one. Then I influenced my brother to get the 9000 so we can chat across the country 2774 km.

at the beginning of this video what kind of settings do you use for the quality of the picture? like autofocus, brightness contrast etc...

Autofocus was switched off but I can't remember about the brightness and contrast though. I basically just fiddled with them until the picture looked good.
The camera software does have this annoying thing where it forgets what the exposure setting was last set to so I have to set it each time I use the camera. That might be a bit annoying for chatting but it only takes a few seconds to fix it each time.

When you have those shades, you can click the Audio button and then you can talk while the pics are up. I have Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX do you think i could get those weird things like the hats and the glasses and the Masks?

Two things: I read in a review that the lens is not that good (very sharp in the center and blurred on the sides)
The sound has some cracks in it when you talk a louder. Do you use the internal mic of the quickcam?

I haven't noticed any problem with the lens. I read some stuff about that on a forum though. Perhaps it varies from unit to unit, but I doubt that it will be a problem unless you're doing something specific that requires a totally sharp image.

You're right about the cracks in the audio. I am using the internal mic. When I made this video I didn't know that you have to turn the recording volume (gain) down very low to avoid distortion. Then you can just boost the volume back up to a good level in the editing program. I still have very occasional problems with distortion, so it's a bit tricky to get the level right.

Yes, the video effects should work with any software.
Lots of people have mentioned the quality of the mic. It doesn't seem very good in this review because I hadn't figured out how to set it up properly yet when I made it. To avoid the distorted sound you have to turn the recording volume down quite low, and then it sounds fine. But the problem then is that the audio level is too low for listening, so then you have to boost it back up to a good level in the video editing software.

...But I'm not sure how well it would work with video conferencing. You could just ask the other person to turn up their volume, but that might be a problem if there were more than two people in the conference.

No, it doesn't work as a speaker. You can set the recording gain for it though (what I called the "recording volume" above), and if it's up too high, it sounds distorted.
