The point is this , Syd was was not only the influence of his band mates, but of a hole generation of song writers, only to rivaled by a few. He is the true meaning of an artist. He totally stood on that side of the line, and not at all the side of fame and fortune. RIP ANGEL BOY...

Well not exactlly because he wasn't intending fame and fortune. If he didnt wanted to be a rockstar, what was he doing in EMI, recording in the Abbey Road studios? I bet he did read his contract before he signed it. I also say a little something got in the way of his comercial sucess, in the very early days of his short career. I'm sure most people here knows the story: too much LSD, severe brain damage and an early retirement of the music business. Is that the true meaning of an artist?...

He still had to eat. I think you should do more research on Syd Barrett,and you'll see he was a very shy person with other personal problems. Things I don't want to get into, that when couple together with acid, had a damaging effect
on his body, spirit and mind. He had transformed physically soon after his melt down. 20% of his work is the latest Pink Floyd cd box set. Check it out.

Ever read any lyrics have you? or poetry? If you can see beyond the news of the world take on his life( drugs, madness, tragic ect ect ) His arrangments on his solo albums could have been better but lyrically they are poetry. David Gilmour has done a wonderful job with this song. I would like to see a whole album of syds songs done by David Gilmour. Now that would be special.

Gilmour always does a great job. He has covered lots of Syd songs like Terrapin, Dominoes, this one Dark Globe, Astronomy Domine, etc. Yeah he should release a compilation of his tribute work to Syd. The songs sound so much better in his voice and arrangement.

Agree on the compilation, but sure wouldnt go as far as to say they would sound better in Davids voice- thats just silly.. Syds voice matched his lyrics perfetly, and your being silly again as usual.

You are seriously confused, have mistaken my identity, or have somehow ascertained that this one song I like that Gilmour covers somehow means I don't like Syd.
My friend, Syd was gone from Floyd before the 70s began, entirely of his own volition. Gilmour had nothing to do with it. The Gilmour era was a completely different era, no comparisons necessary.

You're right about this. To me that makes this rendition even more impressive. The feeling coupled with the spontaneity only adds to Gilmour's legend IMHO.
