i knew a kid in 8th grade who ran 4:38 in his 2nd meet of the season in 8th grade..he's still good, a sophmore now, but definitely alittle burnt out

what do you mean ya right...its been done plenty of times before. look at iesa . org for this years illinois junior high track results. an eight grader ran 4.37 and the state record is 4.31. its believeable.

i saw them, and i have to admit you're right but it is very very rare for somethin like that to happened and some of those kids who run really fast peak too soon most of the time.

its really not that rare. the winner is consistently in the low 4.40's or faster. And about them peaking too soon that might be true for some but here are 2 counter examples: Jorge and edwuardo torres(twins) ran 2.04 in the 800 and 4.33-4.34 in the 1600 in eighth grade. Jorge went on to be a multiple time illinois high school state champ in cross and track and attended the university of colorado, winning the NCAA national cross country championships and is now a professional runner.

I am going to be the first person to run a mile in under one minute. My best time so far is 1:00.00000000001. That 1:00 mark is just such a tough psychological barrier.
