Excellent footage. I was there...husband was one of the course officials. This really shows how "jerky" the movements were for MIT. Really wonderful that 6 of the 11 finished.

Ya... the MIT car, did they finalize everything that they wanted too. It doesn't seem to work properly.. I would not be able to keep a straight face seeing that thing drive down the street.

Some might, but that is pretty unlikely. Most use video combined with lasers rangefinders. GPS is used for location information, video and lasers for localized obstacle detection. The sirens are there to warn humans that the vehicle is... "unpredictable"

Well, the Darpa Grand Challenge was much more physically demanding on the vehicles themselves, but as far as the robotics aspect of it, the Urban challenge required much more advanced programming, because they had to deal with traffic, merging, obeying driving laws, etc.
