I grew up in the 50's, and I'll tell you all: it's simply unfair to compare Elvis and Rick Nelson either musically or in terms of " talent". They were both, in their own ways, truly talented, and both had wonderful voices. Elvis had amazing range, and, to his credit, Rick never tried to be anything other than who he was. Both men were handsome, and, they had class. They also had real respect for each other. Let's just be Thankful God gave us both, for the memories will live forever. Wolfsky9

Rolling Stone published some book around 1982 something about 25 yrs of rock history. They rated the bands/solo artists and all their albums. Rick was still living at the time, so this was no pity tribute. The section on Rick essentially said how good of an artist he was and how he got a bad rap because he started his singing career on his father's televison show. It was very complimentary. I'm glad I got a chance to see him in concert a little less than a year before he died.

If you really love rock & roll, Rick Nelson deserves to be taken very seriously. When he was putting out his big run of records, it was almost like there was a shootout between Rick and Elvis. When Rick put out "Travelin' Man" it was Round Fifteen, and Rick won. That's where he knocked out even the King. If you like rock and roll... you can't not consider Rick Nelson... one of the original rock and rollers. We miss this guy. died at age 45. I rem it well... to young to loose this great talent.

I can remember watching the Ozzie & Harriet Show in the early sixties. At the close of each show Ricky sang one of his songs. It was truly a trajedy how he died. He will be remembered as the king of Rock a Billy music.

What is your point? Half of the entertainment industry (and pro athletes) were doing coke in the 80`s. The man died before his time and before he got a full opportunity to overcome his problems. Contrary to rumors , his coke problem had nothing to do with his plane crash, the fire was started by a short in the heating system.
