Well, I see that most of the people who posted comments don't know diddly about horse behavior! This manuver is used for very unruly horses and is forcing the horse into TOTAL submission. Just like out in the wild! Yes the pulling on the mouth releases endorphins to calm the horse, but there is more..when the horse lays on the ground he is essentially helpless and vulnerable and he says I give in to you superiority. It is all about the pecking order-whos in charge/ whos the leader of the pack.

When a horse lies down even with it's owner there, or horse behaviorist, it's a way of showing trust and submission :)

im a huge fan of pauls work, anyone who has a problem with what he does needs to look up N/H methods inclding how to relise endorphins into the brain - which clams the horse, thats all that is being done. neone who thinks this is cruel 'go moan to the damn rspca about it'

i do this up my yard, lol, imthe yard owners 'lil horse whisperer' i get given problem horses to sort out so they can be sold on :D, its hard work ,but pays off in the end when a frightened, rearing and bucking horse gets sold on as a great allrounder horse with good potential and neat jumps :D woo :D, i would like to do this professionally when im older :D
