What is this, anyway? Comedy? It's certainly not poetry which are ideas intregrated within strict rythmic and rhetorical settings.
I took it upon myself to dodge homework at school and read and read and read. They wouldn't have it. I feel for those who are still at school and dare to think outside the box. Teachers? They so happen to be quite stupid and so become teachers.
A year later they cheekily had me listed along with other Oxford and Cambridge 'success stories'.

GOOSE... "strict rythmic and rhetorical settings" According to? Strict rhythm implies that those who toy with meter, and cadence or the lack of, are somehow wrong for their creativity and therefore not poetic? Although the videos description is pretty clear, I think this clearly is poetry, but moreso in an oratory fashion. You complain about "thinking outside the box," but you judge poetry by rules within one particular box. If your angry at YOUR teachers, why lump them ALL together? peace

Clearly you are brought up on pop prophets like Lennon and Ginsberg. Nothing but a mass of cliches that are for the most part through the media of pop songs which are foisted on you by middle-age men and entrepreneurs who should know better.

There's nothing better than being told that 'You don't have to learn, my boy!'. 'Modern art? There's nothing in it!'. We can just sit down with our marijuana, a noble thing in itself but not a means to anything, listen to our ten or twelve short, five minute songs on our CD and be perfectly content. Life has become this single moment. Finis.

Or maybe you can study the conventions of verse. How it is done successfully. The complexities of G. Manley Hopkins or the unabashed simplicity of Dylan Thomas.
And you might just hit some new ground of expression. What this hack does is public speaking. Or even a bad comedian.
Telling his students to spell properly. Does he not knwo this is simply a convention thrusted upon language, that Skakespeare is famous for spelling his own name with several confusing variations ?

Does he have any knowledge of an inflectional language or has he even studied the grammar of the english language. Greek, Latin or Arabic or Russian? I doubt it, somehow.
He is a fool and a spokesperson the establishment.

First, I hated teachers like him, but I appreciate them now.
Second, why are we analyzing how he is speaking, and not what he is speaking? His form of communication seems to start conversation between people who have never met. Is that not good enough? Or should he be criticized by people he's never met, just because he is indeed a spokesperson for the establishment.
Third, I hate what our world has become, but the only way to change it is by becoming we.Definitely having multiple viewpoints

Goose: It is poetry. It's called slam poetry. And also, people in the audience are laughing, so obviously someone thinks it's comedy as well. For all your talk about thinking outside the box, you seem very narrow minded.

I have been a teacher for the past 13 yrs...started off @ 22 yrs old...I was like..."What did i get myself into???" My 1st class were 7 at the time...now the're 20 yrs old...and they come back and thank me to this day...I love what I do!! My job is very rewarding!!

I know what teachers make; sanctimonious assholes. In 12 years of schooling, I can count the exceptions on one hand that I have encountered. Somehow every other profession from Soldier to Doctor to Engineer to Politician can be openly criticized and critiqued. But teachers, especially the loud mouthed ones are beyond reproach. Basically, they think their shit doesn't stink and somehow they are work harder than anyone else (despite having shorter days and more holidays than anyone.)

I can count the exceptions on 1 hand when I didn't have a great teacher. The bad ones are generally the ones who go into the profession as a last resort. While I don't believe that teachers work harder than others, I do believe that they work just as hard. I know teachers who come in at 6am and don't leave until 5pm so they can plan lessons; who make themselves available to parents & focus on all of their students' needs. That's what good teachers do and I'm sorry you didn't have more of them.

kev3d, only asshole I see here is you. Teachers do not have shorter days, they spend hours upon hours, either after school in their classroom or even at home till late hours preparing plans and doing homework. They spend more time with the youth of today than the parents do and thus know them well.
I recommend thinking before you speak...unless you weren't taught how to do that either.
