Ricky Nelson Rockabilly - 3 songs featuring James Burton

Uploaded by: Gatorrock786
Video Description:
No one can deny the impact Teen Idol Ricky Nelson had on Rock 'n' Roll. From his musical appearances on "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", he helped introduce Rock (and Rockabilly) to the American public. And while Elvis Presley might have been perceived as a bit dangerous... Ricky Nelson was safe for our teenage girls. He also had an amazing back-up band:
James Burton, James Kirkland, Ritchie Frost, and Ray Johnson. (Many formerly had worked with Bob Luman) My favorite part is probably the last 20 seconds of the 3rd song. The recording engineer brought up some cool-sounding hand-claps in reverb. Great touch! Be sure to watch all of my Ricky Nelson videos. James Burton blew me away with his early work and he,of course is a master side man and studio player. He created some bedrock licks that are an important part of the foudation of rock and roll. Ricky and Elvis knew what they were doing when they hired James Burton.

I can't believe James Burton was so good so young. And such precise phrasing and so economical. Kids usually want to play every lick they know on every song. This guy had restraint. Just great sound on these early recordings.

Although I'm a big Elvis Presley Fan and an Elvis Impersonator, I must admit that Ricky Nelson made fantastic Music, too. And he was very good looking! Yesterday I bought myself two CDs of Ricky Nelsons Graetest Hits. Wonderful!!!

For real rock n' roll, rockabilly, or country blues, there is no better guitarist than James Burton. The guy came up with the riff for "Suzi Q", a quintessential rock lick if ever there was one, at age 15. Damn!

Question: Who's the guitarist on Nelson's version of "I'm Walkin"(1957)?
Not sure if it's Burton and it sure sounds like it might be Barney Kessel. Any info out there? Thanks.

if memory serves me right: ricky copied elvis
with his musicians, etc. and there was room for both. each had their own distinctive style and entertained millions. today the all sound the same and longevity is not in sight.
