The Isley Brothers - Twist And Shout

Uploaded by: Hilton1949
Video Description:
5/14 - A few years ago a portable jukebox was discovered which belonged to John Lennon in the 1960s. The jukebox conntained a tracklist of 40 records - soul, R &B and Rock 'n' Roll - written in Lennon's own handwriting. These are the songs which shaped his musical education and they reveal many of the original sources of inspiration for his later songwriting.

I agree the beatles ... ( 2 weeks ago by jackknife)
I agree the beatles didn't do anything wrong they just sang the song because they liked it. The only reason why I think black people get upset over this is because the isley brothers weren't really credited with the song. Many people thought twist and shout was an original Beatles song and not a cover. But it's understandable for Black people to get upset over such a trivial matter because in history some european people stole black ideas.
Like the video said ... ( 2 weeks ago by jackknife)
Like the video said white people integrated black music into their own. Many people think of this as stealing rather than integrating because the majority does not recognize where/who these songs originated from. The only thing i didn't like was that the beatles made the song very karaoke style in the sense that they didn't really change anything. In fact if the beatles had a more rich instead of rough voice the song would have been identical. They should of added their own twist to the song.
Also the song blew ... ( 2 weeks ago by jackknife)
Also the song blew up even more after the beatles sung it. I'm sure that would piss anyone off to find your song only being popular when another group/band sung it especially when it was really good the first time and the other band didn't improve it in anyway. The only possible reasons is maybe because they were white that the song blew up or maybe because they were a new band. Whatever the reason I can't say for sure. But more to the point this song is good no matter who sings it. A CLASSIC.

So by that same logic, Al Green stole "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" (because he is black, since you're going off stereotypes)when he covered it sometime in the 1970s right?
They COVERED it, not STOLE it. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about so stfu before you make yourself look even more ignorant. And refering to the Beatles as "those british arses" is the height of disrespect. What would you do if the Isley Bros were referred to as "those black arses"?Its the same rude thing.

Ps as an open comment to luvureally:
JOHN LENNON WAS NOT AND DID NOT TRY TO SOUND LIKE RON ISELEY!! He already had a cold and sore throat and on top of that, he had been singing for 13 hours recording their first album 'Please Please Me'. Their producer asked him to do this cover at the very end of the day. You really need to do your research before spouting of lies like that.
How many times have ... ( 1 week ago by perljamtec)
How many times have black artists covered Beatle songs? The Beatles are probably the most covered white artist by black musicians. The list is endless everyone from Ray Charles to Jimi Hendrix have covered Beatles songs. The Beatles covered "Twist and Shout" and made it a rock classic. The two versions are night and day. The Isleys version sounds tame and the Beatles version just pounds hard for it's time. The Beatles made the better version

The Gray Album was Jay Z' Black Album mixed with The White Album. Lastly, The Supremes were known as "The Girl Beatles", The Four Tops as "The Black Beatles" and Billy Preston was their keyboardist was is referred to/considered as the "Fifth" Beatle even more than Stuart Sutcliffe (origional bassist) and Pete Best (origional drummer).
Yeah...thats for all the haters out there. Thanks perljamtec for bringing that point up.

Disgraceful, such racist comments. The Beatles were clearly under the direction of their fantastic manager, the late, great, Brian Epstein, who also discovered and managed Cilla Black. Bacharach described Cilla as a white singer who sounded as though she was black, and who could convey that black sound. Cilla had the British No. 1 with 'Anyone Who Had A Heart' and Bacharach gave her 'Alfie' as well as other songs to record. Still there is jealousy with some arguing between Cilla and Warwick.

I actually wasn't going to include it in the list of examples because it is a Harrison solo but my point was showing songs black artists covered that were either Beatle songs or Beatle 'related'; in this case George was a Beatle (same thing why I included Imagine).

Give the Isleys credit for this great song, but Beatles version is the best rock & roll song ever.
