I didn't really want to tell everyone my personal interpretation of the film
"A Noticeable Change" but a lot of people are curious about it and I think there will still be a group that retains their own opinions, hopefully.
When I write out a script for one of my short films I try to keep it as open ended as possible while still maintaining a specific story. The reason I do this is because it allows people to come up with their own meaning and formulate their own theories about the film. However, there is a story that I had in mind . It's pretty basic actually. It's about coping with internal change and how we eventually kill off the opportunities to grow and develop. There is a universal fear of having one's life change in a significant way and then having to deal with it. The character constantly tries to get out of his responsibilities by imagining himself working on a rocket( its in his mind thats why it disappears when he leaves), drowning it out with sound, and even walking away from it. In the end he chooses to end his existence instead of changing his existence. The radio, which was all in his mind, stops because that opportunity, the opportunity for change, is no longer prevalent. The poem, which I wrote a while back fo
r a journal that I was putting together, is about control and grabbing hold of an idea and manipulating it for personal gain. The stars in the poem are reflections of personal ideas and how they can be orchestrated simply by one's own choice.
Now when the film is played backwards there is also a meaning to that as well. I always found backwards speech compelling and knew I wanted to use it for the radio. However, I came to the cinclusion that people would most likely reverse the video and would expect something interesting. So I had to sort of write out the idea as a two sided story and have it tie into the universal story. I finally figured out that if I made the video, when reversed, a whole different feeling it would inevitably compliment the theme, which is facing change and realizing its importance. When the video is played backwards you can hear children screaming and you can hear what the radio is really saying. This is a symbol of truth and how, when a situation is presented to us, we look at things in a single minded manner. The character looks at his situation as somthign confusing (backwards speech) and finds that his decision to kill himself is a good thing (children laughing). However, when we look at his choices in another way we fin
d that the change is sensible and his decision is wrong.
Keep in mind though that this is MY theory on what the story is. It was made for people to formulate ideas and pull personal meaning. I hope you guys continue to do that. :)

Approach, some others....
fear stems from the unknown, the more we know the less we fear. change is an unknown, and the character chose to ignore the radio whitch signalled change, whitch only lengthened his torment until he could bare it no longer.
i've heard it backwards, great poem.
i think that this might be a new direction for you.
