The film itself was too abstract. A coherent plot doesn't mean "dumbing down" a film, it just means more work for the writers.

He gives up his life to start a new universe...I think. I re-watched it to try and understand it better and that's what I think they're getting at. It's like each story ends with the letting go or the giving up of something.

I have diffuclty making sense of the movie thematically. Despite this, I found this film to be one of the most beautiful of modern cinema. The movie's core value suggests an underlying will of nobility to the fundamental nature of the universe.
This movie can be seen as on par with 'A Space Odyssey' as far as films that delve into the nature of life and existence. In fact, I find it to be more beautifully expressed than any other film in said genre that I have seen.

darren aronofsky is a great director/writer, glad to see there are some real worth watching films out there.
Firstly this film is pretty raw, i think this film stands on its own as unique placement within many genres an atempt to express humanities collective questioning of life/death paradox Fantastic! 10/10

...This is where I have to step in and say we agree to disagree. Each person who watches this movie takes something from it that's different from what everyone else thinks. It's kind of like, a movie that's understood on more than one level of thought. I haven't seen it in a few months, but I didn't get the same impression you got, at all :)

Well, no, technically they are not. The soul is the Nervous System. The "body is a prison" thing is only put there by the individual mind (or the Inquisition, as the case may be). The body doesn't do anything you don't want it to do, so it's your own problems you need to deal with. The body is supposed to make it clearer for you.
