He was and still is the apex of Hammond playing. Keith is long past being able to play like this but we have yet to see his equal.

Hard to believe now that all those keyboards can be replaced with one

Yes, we don't need all those old heavy keyboards anymore, so if you have a real Wurlitzer Electric Piano, I'll gladly haul it away for you and not even charge you for my trouble ;-)

Nicar526 asked, "Where can I get this??"
The studio version is on the "Trilogy" album (their third album), released around 1973 (give or take). And as RossMedia2007 said, it's also on the first live album. "Trilogy" is an amazing album all around -- if you don't have it, get it. You won't be disappointed.
Many people, myself ... ( 5 days ago by Ken5244)
Many people, myself included, don't think they can. I've heard a zillion close approximations of classic keyboards, and none really made me think I was hearing the real thing. Digital sampling techniques can come close to the *tone* of the original sounds of some the classic Hammond organs and analog synths, but they can't recreate the depth, power and swirling sound & feel of the organs or the thick, breathy, synth sounds. Some modern synths sound amazing, of course, but in different ways.

The too fast tempo thing was always a bitch of mine about seeing bands live in the
70s.And they all did it-not many didn't.Uppers were the in thing back then..
Keith IS KING !!!! ... ( 5 days ago by 88cutty)
Keith IS KING !!!! I not only heard them open with this in Pittsburgh twice 72& 73 but more than that I FELT it !!!!!! In 75 they played "The show that never ends" in quad with the roof open and you could feel it five blocks away !!! The B3 bowed down when Keith walked on the stage !

Oh, sorry, I thought you meant the song itself.
I dunno about this video footage, but I'd love to get it on DVD too. I just Googled "ELP live in Milan" to no avail. If you ever find it, shoot me a PM & let me know.
I'm with you on the speed thing. I don't think ELP were drug users, but sometimes adrenaline kicks in and artists can get carried away (I guess). I've noticed some vids here get inadvertently sped up by a problem in the upload process, so that's possible too. Who knows ....

This is THE Hammond with analog synth accents.
No one has yet to touch this. All we hear today is digital wannabees.

I was there ! This is exactly how they played in the early seventies . Always faster than the records ! NO drugs ! THe vibrations made tips of your fingers and toes tingle. The potheads missed it !!!!

When I was in high school, way back in the dark ages of the mid 70's, this is what I was listening to. Most of my friends were into Kiss or Alice Cooper etc. ELP, Yes and Deep Purple were rocking my world.

ELP - Can the boys still do it today? Man would love to see them. The Works album is the greatest. Classic goes rock. They can bring something from then and make it sooo NOW. Brillent!
I was remembering ... ( 1 day ago by muxsailor)
I was remembering back in the college days when I had to take ARTS. Learning about the American Composer Copland I noticed that ELP did so many of his works. I think maybe they have more of a solid connection with America doing these songs in that they would appreciate them. I did a presentation in class that showed many classic songs that went rock by artist like ELP. For some of them it was the first time they ever heard it. Many were impressed.
Keith can't touch ... ( 1 day ago by maxa60)
Keith can't touch this today. This was 35 years ago, when he was in his prime. Surgeries on his amazing right hand have limited him further.
To play a Hammond like this is extraordinarily difficult, evidenced by the fact that no one has done it since.

It's awful, I saw a performance of The Keith Emerson Band, and it's sad to see that Keith had such difficulty playing, (his hand seems very stiff)it's a shame that such talent had to come to an end.

Nothing awful about this. This is KE in his Prime. Age and injuries happen.
Still waiting for his equal.

Pardon me if I sound like a Buick salesman, but--have you ever been shown a more talented Hammond player? (c.f. "Have you ever ridden in a finer automobile?")
