The Bobby Orr Rush -- Catch Me If You Can!!

Video Description:
Remember the pre-cable days huddled around the old black and white TV, fidgeting with the antenna to get WSBK TV38 to come in to see the Bruins?
And who can forget doing a jig to the opening tune by the Ventures ("Nutty")!
These clips are a little "grainy" and seen best when viewed in the smaller screen but they are a reminder of the days of watching the Bruins before NESN (great reception today, but the team was way better then).
And, of course, the best Bruin of them all (and greatest all around player ever!) wore Number Four!

This Penguin fan thanks you for the Bobby Orr memories. I got to see Bobby Orr three times in Pittsburgh during the 74-75 season. I know he had a hat trick in a 5-5 tie and I think he had two goals each in a 4-4 tie and a 4-3 Penguin win. I've seen Orr, Gretzky, and Lemieux multiple times and nobody else could do the things they did on the ice. I can't say who is best among those three--I'm just glad I got to see all of them with my own eyes.

What's crazy is how tiny the players look. Look howbig the fucking goal looks! The goalie is like, the same size as the other players, now they take up 3/4 of the goal just standing.
Amazing, bobby orr the best defensemen ever, and probably the first or second best player ever.

gamefreak, Gretzky vs Orr on the Ice.. ORR WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO TAKE THE PUCK OFF OF HIM. and neither could anyone else. Orr = 46 goals, Gretz = 92. Gretzky changed the game a whole lot more than Orr did

Um, dude, Bobby Orr was DEFENSMAN. Or could control a hockey game from the point, rushing, raggin, defending, fighting and everythingelse that gretzky could never do. No contest. Orr was the GREATEST!

sparwood8.. still points don't count for everything.. Gretzky made some amazing things when he played, but so did Bobby Orr. It's so hard to compare these 2 players.. Played different positions and in different era. Much better to just compare Gretzky to Lemieux and Orr to... umm... can't find anyone half as good as he was ;)

They don't count? Who leads the NHL in playoff points? 4 is to Defence as 99 is to Center/fwd. If they had both been on the same team in their prime, Gretz would have scored over 100 goals, and Orr would have fed him for another 30 assists. Orr would have had 150 points.

Nope, and never seen Mike Bossy throw one either. Do you understand that hitting isn't their job? How many guys has Joe Sakic levelled? Also, "Burnaby Joe" carries the puck just as well as Orr ever did.
Finally, they were a lot slower in Orr's day, and he would still be great if he played today, but he wouldn't get away with near as much... he'd get hit a lot more

If they could've played together on the same team it would've been something else.. But they didn't.. Boston hasn't won anything since Orr retired.. At least the Oilers could get a fifth cup without Gretzky.. My point in this is that Orr meant more to the Bruins that Gretzky meant for The Oilers. Oh btw.. Orr suffered from a bad knee in his 2nd season in the NHL.. Still he managed to win the Hart, Art Ross and Norris Trophies.

Hmm Comparing Orr to gretzky, have you seen Orrs plus minus? It was pretty ridiculous, as was Gretzkys.
Orr trumps gretzky by 1 million over as far as defense, Gretzky was never, a good defensive player, while I'm sure Orr was playing almost every PK shift, and the PP.
As far as offense goes, you give Gretzky the edge, he was one of the best offensive players ever...but, Orr was the best offensive defenseman, and could have been on the first line of any squad if he chose to play offense

I'm not adding championships, or games won into this conversation, because there have been outstanding players that never even got a stanley cup, Gretzkys team after he left stayed successful though, all the way up to now, The Bruins not so much.
I think Orr, was the better all around player, It's really hard to think that Gretzky was even close to him defensively or physically. Gretzky definately trumps him offensively, but it's not HUGE, Orr was one of the greatest offensively too. O

Also, as far as the competition, there was plenty of competition, and you had to be TOUGH. Watch those moves, and think how he would tear up the modern NHL. Gretzky and Orr both played when Goalies had smaller pads, so that will give them a huge advantage to say, anyone like Ovechkin or Crosby, I'd say the talent level from when Orr played, and when Gretzky played, wasnt that far off. And Gretzkys goals are all from playing 20 seasons. Look at what Orr had to go through, he got roughed up hard.

The real stat..the one that wins games..the only stat that truly counts is this. While you are on the ice who scores and how much. While on the ice Gretzky has 3520 goals for 2285 against..a game average of .83 (1487 games). Orr has tgf of 1651 and tga of 781 for a 1.46 per game average (596 games, 66/67 n/a). Most of Gretzky's career he was a detriment to his team if there was no power play,Orr's numbers never came close to being inverted..Gretzky was horrid as a 2 way player for over 10 years

growing up as a kid i have watched Bobby Orr play all his games.And let me tell you something, Orr was a beast at controlling the puck,he was super fast, he could fight, he could hit and he could play all positions. I've also watched Gretzky play, sure he can skate and shoot..but did he ever get hit?No. The refs made sure he wouldn't get hit, that's why he can skate past everyone and score amazing goals.Orr had how much surgeries? and yet he was still able to play the game.

I don't know if you have watched Bobby Orr as a kid or not.And I don't know if you only watched Gretzky through his years but hear me out. Orr was never a cherry picker, he would always pass the puck. But Gretzky would decide to go solo with the puck and skate through everyone knowing that no one would hit him. But God for bid if someone would hit him. And please don't shove points in my face saying that Gretzky had more goals and assists than Orr. Because no one ever did what Orr did in Hockey.

as for myself...im a big gretzky fan..but i wish i was born in the 60s so i can watch Orr play the games. Gretzky was really fun to watch growing up. I just wish i was born the same time as my dad so i can watch Orr as a kid..cuz everyone i know says that Orr was more exciting to watch than Gretzky. i dont believe that but..hey lol. i guess u watched orr growing up as a kid since ur profile says ur 47 years old. was orr just as nice to watch as Grezky?
