The craziest thing about this piece (don't get me wrong, I LOVE it) is that a lot of researches have been led to believe the monotony and repetitiveness of it was caused by the head trauma Ravel suffered from later in life. It's easy to believe that when you go back and look at the complexity and lushness of his earlier works in comparison.

This is one of Ravel's masterpieces, yes the melody is the same throughout the whole piece but that's precisely the magic of it, all the instruments are given their fair share of spotlight for once and that's a great orchestral work. And I love the fact that Barenboim trusts his musicians enough not to overdo his part!!
As for the nasty French comment about the image and sound not being synchronised, well, why not try to put it a bit more nicely??

I love this theme, the song is marvellous, most beautiful. Especialy because of it`s tone, that sounds both noble and apealing. But it seams to me, that there`s a touch of cruelty into it as well, i don`t know why...
