Why doesn't it occur to ANYONE to put a bandana cloth around their faces to avoid breathing in all the cotton fibres? I'm sure people like miners used something around their faces to avoid breathing the dust. It seems like common sense.

Actually in those days, it wouldn't have helped even if they had one. The fibers in cotton would have remained in the air for several hours after they finished and also considering all the hard work that they had to do in a cotton mill, it would have been impractical. Another reason was that most mills were run by the poor and they didn't get adequete health care if they became ill.

no even the miners didnt take precautions until early 20th century my Grandad was a miner and died of empacema(spelling??)sad but not enough was done early on.
