for two jazz pianists i am rather impressed how ever being a classical junkie...this interpretation lacks a lot. but it still pleases me to hear chick and keith play this.

I wonder if you don't push it too much... add too much thinking to it, you know? Maybe it's all about music, not just being "classical". I don't know, I'm no expert, but if something is beautiful then that's what it is. How can you make an itnerpretation of beauty? She has countless faces and each of them is true:). But anyway-I'm no expert so I shut up.

interestingly, almost all of the great jazz pianists in history started classically trained. in fact, the only two that i can think of who didn't are red garland and erroll garner.

bud powell and wynton kelly both definitely started classical. maybe they couldn't play ravel like bill evans, but they definitely started classical.
i'm not positive about monk--i can't find much info on his early life. i'd say it's likely that he at very least had exposure to classical music through his sister's lessons and his own limited formal training before becoming a jazz prodigy.
if anyone knows a detailed open source reference about monk's life, i'd be grateful.

A pesar de que me esfuerzo y lo escucho con paciencia, no puedo encotrarle atractivo a Mozart, y tampoco al clasicismo.
Prefiero escuchar a Chopin o a Bach.
