Wonderful celebration of Life. I will google this place and hope to make the next festival. I have seen Buddha rituals (in Thailand) where the statue was bathed in water & milk but I have never seen them bathed with such bright colors or seen a Buddha naked as the man who would honor Buddha.. Praise be! Thanks for the video showing there are still places on this earth filled with inner knowledge.

This a Jain festival, so the statue is of the founder of Jainism, not the Buddha. The Buddha is to my knowledge never shown without clothes. The two religions appear similar of the outside because they began close to the same place and time.

Jains originally gave up all worldly possessions and walked the land naked asking for handouts from the people. Some still do this but many living in Mumbai are rather wealthy at this point and have a history of owning mandallas/large beautiful homes along the Indian Silk Road in Rajasthan.Theirs is a unique and beautiful religion...

The walk up the granite mountain was a bit of a task with steps chiseled from stone...but a wonderful view of the Jain and the country side at the top. I remember a lot of scafolding and building going on....I made an offering and was given holy water at the top by a Jain priest...

I've been there, though not during the festival. I must admit, I'm not used to naked men walking around and it was a bit awkward when they made conversation with us.
