Vinnie and Weckel did the best at this: Gadd did not.
Yep, It's why no one plays like BB'King.
Chops won't buy you personality and Gadd delivers it.
Gadd lives on reputation and yes he is great, but he can't touch Dave Weckl, not by a stretch and everyone who knows about drumming knows that. Not to diminish Gadd's greatness, but Weckl is just other-worldly.
Good one man, good one! I hear they moved Spain to Cuba as well. It was all part of "the big move."
"For me, the music is the thing that inspires me to play the drums, its not the drums that inspires me to play the music." --Steve Gadd.
Gadd wins on groove and having the hair cut still most relevant.
Colaiuta (why cant he be called Jones? You notive everyone calls him Vinnie ;) ) won on pure bombast chop mayhem and doing it all in that frankly restrictive looking suit.
Weckl won on dynamic control and finally realising he needed to cut that poodle off.
Just my thoughts gents. Either way, I think we all agree that we cant do anything near that awesome. :)
This is still like the three sickest drummers to walk the earth on one stage ever. Thanks for posting !
Steve Gadd is my hero.
Gadd is the king of groove and plays for the song!
Who never stops working and plays with all the greatest artists of the 20th century? Steve Gadd!!
He smokes them both with groove and feel...
Just listen to the crowd when he starts playing.
Thats whats its all about.
LOL
We hear what we want to hear when we prefer someone, even when they haven't near the talent of a Dave Weckl, but hell I won't knock Steve because he is fantastic.
I'm just a realist more than most who simply delude truth amid their own personal preferences.
I mean hell I love 100 other drummers, but still realize that Weckl is much better -- but I respect your right to your opinion.
Peace...
