Umm, it seems to me that the beginning slap bass was something that was premeditated.
But I think just about all of the rest was improvisation amongst talented musicians.

Not to take anything away from their musicianship at all, but more then the beginning was premeditated. The mind set of doing an open jam is to have several ideas on which to fall back to, but when and where those changes happen is left to the moment.
