They were never really in control. This disorder was always in control of them, they just didn't know it until their health started deteriorating. Psychologically, it's about control, but it's all one big mindtrick. The disorder was always in control from the start. It's powerful and that's where they found the will not to eat. The disorder told them not to. This isn't at all about will power, it's about a lack of it, the inability to stand up against those voices that suggest they don't eat.

You will grow up and realize how dumb it is to waste your time on being the sad emo thin girl. Trust me I am not trying to be mean. When I was a teenager I thought being sad and angsty was cool and anorexic girls were so deep but I grew up. Its a bunch of bullshit and for the girls that keep going into their 20's and older they just never grew up and thats the sad part. I think one of the girls in the Doc even says that she is still a little girl.

I'm a recovering anorexic and it comes down to if I had had the ability to receive treatment the way that these girls do, I wouldn't have taken it. I didn't realize until my second miscarriage from forcing myself to starve and throwing up what I did eat that I did have a problem. It's more than being spoiled or a fashion statement. It's a mental problem.

Actually it isn't to do with class or money. Anorexia exists even in third world countries, yes it is more unusual beause of CULTURE VALUE DIFFERENCE not money, but there are still girls purging in Kenya and Uganda it is not restricted to "rich girl beauty queens" as you call them. Also, this film is based on emotion not background story, perhaps if you read the book that compliments this documentary you'd understand the illness better.

the health risks of being obese are just as great as being emaciated. only 10% of anoretics with die from the disease, not 90. all eating disorders are equally destructive physically AND mentally. Most obese people also hate their bodies but they just can't stop binging. Did you know that people who get gastric bypass are required to get counselling?
