Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky demolish one of the central tenets of our political culture, the idea of the "liberal media." Instead, utilizing a systematic model based on massive empirical research, they reveal the manner in which the news media are so subordinated to corporate and conservative interests that their function can only be described as that of "elite propaganda."

Keith Olbermann is scared. Not by the threat of terrorism in the United States. But at the notion that "24" might be raising Americans' awareness of the threat.
Time Magazine Asks 'Is 24 a Conservative Show?'
Undoubtedly, Bauer will continue to give liberals and libertarians conniptions before his latest day is over. But if conservatives and neocons think 24 is working for them, they don't know Jack.
One has to start wondering if the media are more afraid of "24" and any reference to terrorism than terrorism itself.
Newsweek's Devin Gordon wrote: "Depending on your perspective, '24' is either a neocon sex fantasy or the collective id of our nation unleashed." Much like other recent media carps and whines concerning this show, Gordon used his review as an opportunity to swipe at the current president.
Myth... no. exposed... yes.
First off, it's self contradictory. It asserts that the main media outlets are run by profit-driven corporations. At the same time, it asserts that these corporations serve to promote political rather than financial interests.
The 2 are mutually exclusive. Serving as a mouthpiece for the government is very UNprofitable. Exposes on corporate and government misconduct draws in viewers, and thus, profits.
If you want proof of the liberal media, atleast in the sphere of entertainment, visit the Maoist Internationalist Movement website. Their reviews of top American blockbusters are surprisingly positive.
Terminator, Aliens, Matrix, The Running Man, Bladerunner, etc, all boldly portray corporations and the government as villains.
The Propaganda Model is simply a rehashing of Marx's tired old "False Consciousness" theory.
Let's start with MSNBC: Grand Slam.
CNN first reaction: She hit it out of the park.
Fox News: Blah, blah, blah, generic endorsement of the candidate Obama not the character of Barack Obama.
I think the speech was a pile of democratic talking point cliches that had me cringing with disbelief that anybody could really thinks that there is a plan for supposed change. She said what she needed to say.
First off, which media elitists claim to be speaking "for you"? Second of all, who are these media elitists speaking to "in your name"?
They don't speak FOR you, they speak TO you! That's what makes it MEDIA!
The Democratic convention seems to have only exacerbated those tensions. Last night saw Olbermann caught on an open mic blurting out profane disgust at Scarborough, prompting the latter to verbally call him out while fellow MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews sat back mortified at the intra-family dispute.
Scarborough is discontented at MSNBC's decision to be the cable news of choice for Bush haters. That makes far left Olbermann freak.
I never see stories on the news about workers unless it is sensational like a major factory shutting down. But every single day there it is, the market report, like clock work.
In terms of what is covered, the media actually has a very prominent conservative bent. Would you disagree?
Likewise, the media is intolerably liberal to Ku Klux Klan men and Skinheads.
But both these people make such a tiny and part of the population, their opinions are irrelevant.
I consider myself a centrist. I'm a social liberal and an economic/foreign policy conservative. I would say the media has a slight liberal bent. Entertainment media is far to the left (The Matrix, RATM, etc)
