Baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) and Vinegar (Acetic acid) fizzes violently and produces sodium acetate, carbon dioxide, and water as in the following equation.
NaHCO3 + CH3CoOOH --> NaCH3COO + CO2 + H2O

It is ... ( 1 month ago by compwhiz797)
It is crystallization, not a chemical reaction. Heat it up again and it will melt, and you can repeat it after cooling. I would not recommended drinking, first off for the reason that it would become solid in your mouth/throat at this concentration. In very small quantities it flavors salt and vinegar chips (wikipedia), and the MSDS has no poison indications, probably the biggest risk is dehydration (though it does mention it being investigated as a mutagen).

This is basically one of those hot packs you can buy in any camping store. They come in plastic packets with a little metal tab inside, click the tab and it sets off the reaction. That's the easiest way of demonstrating this effect. And no it's not ice, though you could probably fool someone into thinking it was. It's not that solid either, it's stiff, but definitely flexible (the hot packs are anyway).
