| MGM dropped War as a "drug group" & kept Eric, even tho it was well known he tripped all the time. Actually MGM dropped War for lack of sales. Fortunately they were picked up soon after by a more enlightened label. Those guys had the funk! |

| Actually War was NEVER signed to MGM...only Eric Burdon. On their first album Burdon was "declaring" or introducing War, but the band itself never had a contract with the group. This technicality allowed United Artists to sign the band right out from under MGM. And it IS true that MGM was sort of oppressive. Their president at the time was really "puritannical" but EB and the guys REALLY slipped some crazy things on their albums for MGM right under that guy's nose. He didn't have a clue. |

| Burdon is alive, and 5 of the original 7 members are still alive. Only Papa Dee Allen on percussion and Charles Miller on flute have passed. Today "War" is bascially a tribute bande made up of Lonnie Jordan (the keyboardist in this clip) and a bunch of younger guys. The other 4 guys (Harold Brown, Lee Oskar, Howard Scott, and B.B. Dickerson) tour as the LOWRIDER BAND. They are the "real" War, and the heart of the band. |
