The final cut was utterly pointless, worse than the directors cut. So Ridley adds some lightning at the beginning city scene, the "I want more life father" instead of 'fucker' and the changed unicorn scene, and other pointless shit. Big deal. Directors cut is much better.

Can anybody explain why they're using 'vintage' 1980s sound? I'm not an expert in movie restoration but if they're able to restore picture shouldn't they have the same ability for sound?

I thought it was, but I don't think it is.. I checked out the OST for the Fountain, and I couldn't located this segment of the song. If ANYONE could tell me, I've been searching for MONTHS!

It definitely is on Clint Mansell's Fountain OST; it's one of my favourite soundtracks along with Peter Gabriel's 'The Passion'...
I believe that they used an extract of the song 'Tree Of Life', but it could also be taken from 'Death is the Road to Awe'.
All of the songs on the Fountain's OST sound very familiar to each other, so I'm not 100% sure about which song it was extracted from, but I'm sure that it is on that album!

Don't think I can answer in any authoritative way cept to say that audio is recorded separately and there were already a few sound issues in the original theatrical release. If you watch the accompanying docos with the new DVD set, you'll see how difficult this production was to complete for Scott.
