It was Nixon who set the plan in motion to withdraw from Vietnam, and Ford who made it happen. I think most people agree that they weren't Democrats.
However, it was a Democrat who lied about the Tonkin Gulf incident and escalated the war beyond all reason. Of course, Lyndon Johnson WAS an all-hat-no-cattle Texan just like Boy George...

The surge worked on some levels...the same levels that would have been accomplished if the military leaders who said we would need more troops in the first place to secure Iraq would have been listened to. Instead, bush, rummy, dick, etc laughed it off. Sadr is still out there lurking and he will wait this all out. Webb does not debate well, but read about his service in "The Nightingales Song" if you doubt his record.

The majority of our troops in Iraq have died from IED's, random mortar attacks, etc. No one is "miles away from any combat". Lindsey Graham has done active duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan. And it hasn't just been in the Green Zone.
And Jim Webb is not his son.

As for Webb he's been awarded the Purple Heart (twice), Bronze Star (twice), a Silver Star and the Navy Cross.
