Actually I chose them based on food and service and proximity, and many time I do go ethnic.
I would not want to humiliate anyone at airports for example but it seems humiliating everyone equally with no regarrds for liklihood based on profile has not been efficient nor has it been convincingly effective. A young man from Algeria is far more likely to be a terrorist than and old woman from Hungary. Searching them equally is an empty gesture. Whats worse she gets searched more as it is now!!

This Rivkin guy is an idiot... where is the "bank robbery" that they're trying to investigate? There not investigating any crime or terrorist act. Furthermore, saying that this government is going to "investigate" but not use electronic surveillance is just foolish. We all know that the government has no problem stepping over that line. If the question here is whether a right has been violated yet the answer is no... but this is a step in the wrong direction. P.S. It's not about "feelings".

pedophilia & violence are mental illnesses. such people should be forcibly but peacefully segregated from society imho.
more importantly, prevention is the key to reducing violence & crime (as well as other mental (& physical) illnesses). And by prevention I mean --> universal health care, truly comprehensive & holistic education, a REDUCTION(!) in police presence - in short, a more PEACEFUL & LOVING society will yield more peaceful & loving people & communities.

So everyone that has ever laid their hands on someone else is mentally ill and should be forcibly removed from society? You might be all by your lonesome, pal. And there won't be much of a society left. Violence has been a part of the human condition and in order to get rid of it we do indeed need to investigate the sources of it. Rehabilitation os those that commit violent acts is preferable over segregation.

I guess I would just like you to clarify exactly what you mean by segregate. Incarceration? I think anger and violence is a part of the human response to fear and intolerance. You'd have to send me some psychological profiles to prove that violence is a symptom of mental illness. I agree that we have to evolve, but we don't necessarily need to lock everyone up in order to rehabilitate them.

Where did I say let's lock everyone up? Counseling for those who need it, to be defined within reason. I guess at bottom I'm arguing for a more rehabilitative (vs punitive) criminal system.
Compassion is contagious.
But as ur apparently so concerned about some theoretical tipping point of incarceration beyond which society would crumble - U.S.A. has the highest per capita prison population of any country on earth. For those "locked up" people & their families, society has well since crumbled.
