I may be echoing HL Mencken here, but democratizing information isn't nescessarily a good idea. Generally the web does okay because the technical aspects of it work as a sort of idiot filter, but you are f*ing naive if you thinks its a good idea to let the average joe choose his own news stories. The human inclination to self degradation and deception is truly terrifying in its scope. Espescially over broad anonymous web networks and about something as important and worldview defining as news.

Digg is garbage. They idea that the community can push important stories forward is ridiculous. Many people are too stupid, ignorant or just uninterested in real issues to be bothered promoting anything worhtwhile.
