Awakening - Total Sanitation in Bangladesh - Part 2
Uploaded by: WorldBank
Video Description:
The good news for sanitation in the region is that service provision has recently gone from a growth of one percent per year to ten percent per year in Bangladesh. This is in large part due to the successful implementation of the Community-Based Total Sanitation (CLTS) programs that reward villages for eliminating the practice of open defecation. The number of villages achieving open defecation-free status in India jumped from thirty four to 770 last year. Our advocacy of this approach has sparked demand for support from other service providers and governments and we are helping develop institutional approaches that will empower more communities to participate in improving the quality of their own sanitation.
