I have ab A/B/G built in transceiver in my laptop. How readily findable is 802.11n these days? Common yet. IMHO, I think it's still really relatively new. People still seem to be catching up with G. Some still appear to just be at the lowest 802.11 at 11Mbps as opposed to the 54.
Yeah, sniffers. That's why I use wired when at my desk. Unplug and turn on the wireless when I move about. Also, I turn off the SSID broadcast and keep the broadcast signal strength to a minimum and use WEP encryption.

You said out and about. Is there a way to have my laptop disabled if it's stolen? I have police tracking built in but not the disabling part.

I just bought a Cat6 Ethernet cable a few days ago and just got it today. When I had my wireless usb network adapter, my downloads speed were at 3.5megs. When I hooked up my Ethernet cable, my speeds were up to 11 megs download speed.

Personally, I did use wireless for 2+ years and did enjoy, it is really convenient, except for the occasional problems of the adapter overheating, slow downloads, and internet timeouts. Long Ethernet cables may be a hassle, but I personally prefer them now and think its a good way to go.
