Who will ever buy ... ( 4 months ago by cromptonenator)
Who will ever buy it? Would you buy it?
I mean, it's ugly. Until someone invents a cheap electric car with some sex appeal, it won't sell.
Look at the sucess the Tesla Roadster has been already... mind you, that costs loads.
Array ( 4 months ago by signsoflife7)
Oh good grief.
Did they make it **deliberately** ugly? It's as appealing as a chocolate covered meatball.
And surprise surprise (quick check of the Tango website), they're STILL not actually selling it.
Hmmm. Let me see if this seems as odd to you as it does to me:
Aptera: not quite yet, be patient...
Tesla: not quite yet, be patient...
Miles: not quite yet, be patient...
Tango: not quite yet, be patient...
GM Volt: not quite yet, be patient...
Hmmm...

Ugly? Outside my window, here in San Francisco, are 4 Motorcycle slots that could be filled by Tangos. That would be a beautiful sight! I would buy one if I had the money.
I would buy it for ... ( 4 months ago by MickWiser)
I would buy it for <$20k, but not $108k. But I don't care about what it looks like. I would wave to you as I drive past you pumping $5 gas in your pretty car.

Far too expensive and far too ugly, you'll never sell in numbers with something looking like that! Why don't these people simply buy a new state of the art small car like the toyota Yaris, strip out the ICE components, then build their latest drive train into it, it would half the cost and give a "normal" looking and far more practical vehicle, I think the Miles will be far, far more succesful than this effort as it's based on a "real" car to start with
But you still have ... ( 3 months ago by b0nes2)
But you still have the problem of weight. Even the yaris liftback is a heavy car, even though it is an economy car. And it wouldn't Hhalve" the cost because you are still paying for all the stuff you have to strip out plus the cost of doing so. But I understand what you are saying. Looks are subjective, I like the way it looks. For the equivalent of $0.35 cents a gallon I wouldn't care.
Also it's so ... ( 3 months ago by b0nes2)
Also it's so expensive because they are not mass produced. Did you listen to the video at all?
The weight is a red ... ( 3 months ago by paulifa1)
The weight is a red herring, yes it's heavier, but using Lithium batteries and normal car weight, you can easily get a range of 125+ miles. You then also have mass market appeal with a 4/5 seat car. The majority of the car buying public won't buy something that looks more like a childs toy or a covered in motorbike, re the cost, it's not likely to get mass produced as it's not got mass market appeal, then you have competition like Phoenix and miles who are building ev's from real new cars.
This is aimed at a ... ( 3 months ago by b0nes2)
This is aimed at a specific market, people who only drive themselves to work. And for looks they are subjective, the Prius and Smart are ugly imo but they sell like crazy because the fuel savings are more important than looks. I have a 5 seat car only because I don't think motorbikes are safe and no decent electric cars were available. I think you are wrong, it does have mass market appeal, just look at the videos of the public's reaction to the Tango on Youtube.
I totally agree ... ( 3 months ago by paulifa1)
I totally agree with you that the Prius and smart are ugly, there are many ugly cars on our roads here in the UK. I only drive myself to work also, but I have a beautiful stylish coupe, it gives me great pleasure to look at as well as drive, what pleasure can you gain staring at this box on wheels?, I agree that looks are subjective and we do need EV's, but not this one, I hope it isn't successful because the world needs more beauty, not uglyness that just happens to be practical..

Hopefully once they can turn a profit they will get the investment backing they need to mass produce it. Even at $30,000 i think these would sell like hotcakes. If for nothing else, a safe vehicle that can do 0-60 in 4 seconds and not guzzle gas.

Don`t know what you`re (a Fnaboy) = denial = fail. Well I respect that they want to make an eletric 'sport" car but please don`t don`t understand shit of what makes a sports car a sports cars. If i want an electric sports cars I would buy a Tesla Roadster not this square failmobile.
It seems you are a ... ( 3 months ago by MickWiser)
It seems you are a little obsessed with the word "sport". Hmmm? Sounds like a Fanboy to me. Oh and that's Fanboy, NOT Fnaboy: Pull your head out of your ass if you are going to try to put someone down.
Well you probaly ... ( 3 months ago by MC0Mijado)
Well you probaly isn`t an entusiast. But if you want to become one I suggest sportscarforums, great site for other entusiasts in sports cars, maybe you can get some knowledge about the subject. And oh tuff boy you`re alredy getting pissed off I think that it`s you that is running low in argumments. But lets pretend that you understand a little about cars, tell me in details why this car would be superior to a Porsche 911 or cayman or even a tesla Roadster?

Yes you are right, ... ( 2 months ago by MickWiser)
Yes you are right, I have run out of arguments. All I can say is what I already said: It would be great transportation in big cities because: It doesn't use gas; You can get thru gridlocked traffic by splitting lanes like a motorcycle but you are inside.
Better than Porsche 911 because it doesn't use gas and is just as fast.
Better than the Tesla because it can split lanes.
I agree, the thing ... ( 2 months ago by MickWiser)
I agree, the thing is ugly and not sporty. I think it would still be fun to drive though. I don't care about "sports" cars, I care about cheap transportation. I think if most cars were replaced with something like the Tango then it would help solve the energy crisis and traffic jams (here in the US).
It would at least solve my own personal energy crisis and traffic jams if it wasn't so expensive to buy.
I like a lot about ... ( 2 months ago by DanFrederiksen)
I like a lot about the idea but the design concept has a fundamental unsolveable problem; it relies on the lead acid keel to be stable which means it can never be made lighter. iirc it weighs a ton! same as a small 4 seater steel car. weight is an enemy of efficiency and therein lies its defeat..
I applaud their efforts and I hope they go with the truth and offer other designs instead. but I know it's a touch pill to swallow
1. The weight is ... ( 1 month ago by ffsallnamestaken)
1. The weight is good for safety
2. You dont need any lighter, did you notice the performance of the little beast?
3. Efficiency.. Well its probably the most efficient car except for those extremely small solar cell cars they race with.
Its more efficient then Tesla because of weight/power/size and efficiency cant even be mentioned when it comes to cars based on mechanical engines.
Only problem is people dont like small cars, but the few years of oil left will help with that i think..

sigh, yes I do need lighter.
I know its performance but I also know what cost it comes at energy and cost wise.
weight is good for safety but only against other overweight vehicles. otherwise low weight is fine and we have to think ahead.
if you reduce the weight to 25% you only need 25% of the energy and power to drive it at low speed. the body can be made more aerodynamic too. because of its dependence on a heavy keel it is fundamentally flawed. deal with it.
I dont get you, ... ( 1 month ago by ffsallnamestaken)
I dont get you, realy i dont.
You complain about wierd things like weight, without that weight it should be limited to 10mph for safety as it would tip over in every corner otherwice.
And the aerodynamic aspect lets just say this: Its half the size so half the air resistance already.
You demand way to mutch from a tiny company building these things in a garage.
Maybe when/if they get mass production you will get your superexpensive version.

I recently rode in this car. I had dinner with Rick Woodbury and spent an evening talking to him about this concept car. Concept car? No, concept yes, concept car...no. His idea isn't to make a wooden Flintstone vehicle. Its a car that will protect a communter during rush hour traffic, get them to work on time, save space on the freeway, and at a cost per mile that so far can't be met by any hybrid or ICE.
I'm going to buy one of these as soon as the price is at his target of $10k each.
