Just because something is ridiculously popular doesn't mean its good.
Actually, more often then not it can be said that the two are INVERSELY related as opposed directly, like you claim.
Basically. If something is ridiculously popular with the mainstream society then chances are its really not THAT good and is in fact rather shallow. If you want something 'good', then you'll need to delve a little deeper.
