I'd say good bands are all influenced by other good bands, you can read tons of interviews that prove that. It makes them brothers and sisters more than offspring of each other. As for Iggy and Ramones not being saleable except for the last few years, I beg to differ, look at record sales, not commercials. They are rock legends like Sabbath. Rock begets rock. Some lame bands are influenced by great bands too, but who cares about those bands? They wont be known five generations down the road.

thing is, Television aren't a punk sort of band, or at least the songs that made it onto Marquee Moon and Adventure aren't punk. The reason so many people associate the group with classic punk acts was because they were probably the most talented band to come out of the CBGB scene and played at the same venues at the same times as those punk acts. However, listen to any of those punk groups alongside Television and tell me which group knows how to make beautiful, unique music.
