Solar Electric PV Car Automobile - Sun Sprint 2000
Uploaded by: newculture
Video Description:
Solar energy can power vehicles. Anyone can build their own model solar powered car with an inexpensive PV panel and a small electric motor. Larger versions that carry an adult as seen in the "Solar Challenge" and "Race the Sun" contests.
Building model solar cars can be done by children students from ages 10 to adult. Subjects can be global warming, climate change, peak oil, energy supply, photovoltaics, and the future.

I believe "Sun Sprint" is based on "Junior Solar Sprint", and was at one time sponsored by the U.S. National Energy Research Lab.
"Ray Catcher Solar Panel" by Pitsco, or "JSS Solar Panel" by Solar World are the listed retailers.
Looks like Pitsco sells the panel for $40, and the kit with motor and alligator clips for $45.
Solar World sells panel for $28, and kit with motor, motor mount, gear for $30.
These model solar cars run on a thin fishing line, pulled extremely tight, and stretched about 3 mm above the track for about 20 m.
Most cars use a single small eyelet, or a double eyelet (reversed from each other) near the front axle to keep the car on course. The single eyelet doesn't always do it (see video).
The only reason they appear expensive is when compared agaist fossil fuels, like oil, which are already becoming MUCH more expensive, and which will continue to do so for many, many year.
Buy PV now, or kick yourself for not doing so later.
