manga, good music back in the funky 70s didn't need shit like loop machine. back then, they played real music! The chic were far out (what we call "cool" today).

I am not that new on the block I have heard of far out and groovin.
My point was that just about all disco I know of you see them playing the strings, and using natral drums. Also, drum machines are just a tool in the right hands it can also be used to create art, in the hands of a proper artist as just another musical tool like drumbs, or horns, or even a computer. its what you can do with it but not use it as a sole crutch.
Feel me what I am saying?

manga, this was 1979. i don't think drum machines even existed back then. if they did, they would not be good enough to be used to replace real percussion without sounding too synthetic. please don't try to use today's manufactured music and try to second guess the 70s. people like me who grew up in the 70s ARE offended by that kind of ignorance!

Manga's right. A drum machine is just another tool to create music with. I've used plenty and I've played with real drummers as well. It's just a matter of different aesthetics. As far as "manufactured" goes most disco records of the seventies were made to make money. A lot of people(my self included} hated them because they were thought to be cheesy corporate product. Over the years I've grown to appreciate the music and especially the musicianship behind a lot of the songs.

this is just too cool.. those girls Alfa & Lucy are FANTASTIC!!! SOME SASSY MAMA'S and Nile,Benard, and Tony are the best to ever do it..i was a little kid when that came out, and when you heard it, we would lose our minds.. it just explodes out at you.. i just realized a few years ago. that Prince's "Lets Work" is modeled after Le Freak...

johndevault, i suppose "cheesy" means they weren't pretentiously angst-ridden like rock? "Manufactured" wasn't meant literally. Afterall, every vinyl is manufactured. I meant manufactured as in schlapping a bunch of talentless creatures together and put the marketing machine on overdrive, like in Maroon5 crap! The Chic played on their own terms. So, tell me, how cheesy is that?
I'm not saying Chic ... ( 2 weeks ago by johndevault)
I'm not saying Chic were bad. I'm saying that back in the '70's disco was perceived by many rock fans to be cheesy corporate product when in reality the music was much fresher and more original than most of the tired mainstream rock that people were listening to. That doesn't mean that a lot of disco groups weren't manufactured - thrown together to make a buck. Every type of music in every era has those bands. By the way Le Freak is a great song.
This is one ... ( 2 weeks ago by IndioFreak)
This is one flawless piece of music. No synthesisers or drum machines, but bare acoustic, electric analog instruments and mixing. It hasn't been yet unsurpassed: we are witnessing the (playbacked) performance of a classic that's largely stood the test of time.
Can't think of a song with those traits at this very moment.
