Great video. Watch the "of a lifetime" video first, then this one. Wish the entire concert was on here to view. I didn't realize that they still played some of these songs when Perry and Smith were in the band. This concert is from 1980! Awesome stuff!

I have seen Jonathan play this song and he did a fine job on it. He has a different style than Gregg, Jon is more classy while Greg gave Journey a more sassy approach

On the 2005 tour they performed several of the pre Perry songs, including this one with fireworks behind the stage that made it really cool. If they would have only released the vid from Dallas in 05 People would have been excited. They also played Mystery Mountain, Nickle & Dime and a couple of others. The '05 vid would also have the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders onstage that the end of Don't Stop Believin'

Finally, the good stuff, back in the days when the songs went beyond the three minute love tunes that they became so popular and successfull for with Steve Perry.

Plus, Dunbar was an EXTREMELY busy session drummer and played with many other bands in between Journey albums. Dunbar is one of the most prolific drummers from that time. he didn't "need" to be with Journey, he could pick & choose projects he wanted to do.

I know there's all kinds of love for Steve Perry (apparently not in this group), and when I was a little kid, I was "in love" with Steve Perry more than anyone, I wore out all my Journey albums, but now listening to it all over again, the old Journey w/ Gregg Rolie is such a more mature and talented sound than the Steve Perry Journey. He really does NOT have that great of a voice, really. It's a very dated, pop sound, not suited for rock music (case in point: Oh Sherry.. 'nuff said!!).

"He really doesn't have that great a voice"?? DUH. Perry had one of the best voices in the history of music. If you like "Instrumentals" then PRE_Perry Journey is for you. However, if you like songs with LYRICS, then nothing beats the Perry era. As far as being "dated" this stuff sounds like 70's southern rock. It is VERY dated as well. To each his own!

70s southern rock? This? What the fuck are you smoking? And, yeah, it may sound 70ish. It was written in the 70s moron. Before Alvin & the Chipmunks (aka, Perry & Cain) came around.

ya I agree, This is about as far from southern rock as you can get. This is closer jazz rock fusion. This guy obviously doesnt know shit about music.

This concert is not from 1977, is from the Departure Tour in 1980. And,NFCLbabygirl, no member of Journey has died. Tickner, Fleischman and Ansley are still alive.

And by the way, this concert is in Tokyo, Japan, October 11, 1980, not from Winterland in San Francisco. The only date they played in San Fco in the Departure Tour was in March 26 opening the tour

I was never a fan of Stevey Perry. I loved the "Pre-Perry" Journey. Greg Rollie had an excellent voice. Steve Perry: "One of the best voices in the history of music?" I respectfully disagree.
