cold scene...avon ... ( 3 months ago by chynasmom)
cold scene...avon knew he set his man up for the slaughter and they talking bout "back in the day" stuff like everything is everything. at the same time, i believe that springer set up avon with the narcs. this scene represents that infamous phrase "no honor amongst thieves"

This scene to me is of best scenes ever put on television.
When Stringer died ... ( 3 months ago by ravingpurist)
When Stringer died and Avon was sent away all the humanity was drained out of the criminal element of this show. Even as ruthless as they were, they weren't as brutal as Marlo and all you need in pure capitalism is the will to stoop lower than your competitor. The end of season 3 was just chilling, and the rest of the show had a much darker tone.
Yea, they set each ... ( 3 months ago by wesleyshawn)
Yea, they set each other up. Omar tells Stringer that Avon gave up his location so he and the Brother could find him and kill him. And when the safe house is raided Avon sees Stinger's name as the source of the police's information on the search warrant.

I think Avon would have maintained control of the organization but Stringer would have left to go legit after he made enough money.
Well stated. Marlo ... ( 3 months ago by partlowed99)
Well stated. Marlo was what you call stoical but he was too cold at times. He had no soul what so ever. Sure there are people like this in the world, but they're hard to relate to on a show. Marlo and Chris were smart (the second also cute), but they were ruthless beyond necessity.

2:38 I think Stringer realizes what's going to happen.
One of the best scenes I've ever watched. How this shit didn't win an Emmy is utterly beyond me.
The Emmy's are a ... ( 2 months ago by djmertz)
The Emmy's are a joke. I've shown The Wire to people that love cop shows, people that love gangster shows, people that love the street... and people that don't like any of that, and EVERYONE agrees this is one of the best shows, if not the best show ever made.
The Emmy people are just way out of touch.
Like other people have said on here, when you realize all of the other elements that are going on (street v. business, friend v. friend, etc) this is one of the best scenes in the history of tv.
You know I used to ... ( 2 months ago by djmertz)
You know I used to think that. Because you could turn on any episode of any season of Sopranos and it was amazing. And really, season 2 of the wire was pretty weak. Important for the story but weak.
But after seeing the terrible last season of Sopranos and the way the wire was PERFECTLY wrapped up... I have to say the Wire wins out. It's a better overall story than Sopranos.

This scence is one ... ( 2 months ago by trevdiggz)
This scence is one of the deepest of them all because it show how far they came from kid, but the deep part of it all is the fact that we all was told there is no friends in this game and this show that no matter how much time you and your best man got in together he will cross you. honestly to choose which one was the most foul its like picking the less of to evils, but i feel string motive was purly money and avons was from a point of respecting the game and how its played and keeping the code

"lord protect me from my friends, because i know who my enemies are..."
this is some real ish right here. One of my favourite TV scenes from pretty much the best show i've ever watched. Damn.

Might be the best scene in the entire series.
I think avon set up ... ( 1 month ago by saladin245)
I think avon set up stringer because it was the only way to stop brother mouzone from exacting vengeance on the Avon's organization, possibly Avon himself. At the end of season 2, Avon said that stringer didn't understand a soldier like brother mouzone, which is why he got into the situation that he did. With the Marlo situation, Avon just couldn't afford to have a guy like Mouzone as an enemy (prop Joe said the dude had "more bodies to his name than a chinese cemetery").
