. \ ' UBUNTU LINUX ' / .: Valve's game Team Fortress 2

Video Description:
This is a demonstration of Valve's Team Fortress (a game inspired by the popular Quake Mod, running on Valve's "Source" Game Engine) running atop the Wine Windows Emulator (actually Wine implements the Windows API, making Windows programs appear as Native Linux programs, complete with sound and 3D support. Wine supports both OpenGL 2.0 and DirectX upto 9.0c. As you can see
Wine works well enough to enthrall the gamer and make them forget they are running on a free and open source Operating System, Ubuntu 7.10.
Now Wine may not run all Windows games, but it's an argument for why we should need Windows to play video games at all. Take this idea further, one could create a version of Ubuntu Linux centered primarily on playing video games for any platform, even playing games natively.
I have demonstrations of ETQW, the latest video game from ID Software, the ones who began the 3D industry with Doom and Quake. ID made a native client, that is a program specifically designed to run on Linux, that will allow linux users to play ETQW with the same capabilities as that of the Windows version. Including mic support.
Difference is, I only paid for ETQW and Valve's Organge Box, I didn't have to pay for Ubuntu nor Wine, as the source code (the programs before they are compiled into executables) is completely free and open to developement.
This means that regardless of what advances Microsoft is to make with Windows, Linux users gain the benefits of a Windows user without buying windows, and without being locked into the Windows platform.
This allows for those wishing to get off the Windows platform, the ability to run applications they must while adopting the free and open source environment of Linux.
And did I mention its much easier to use than Windows?

I'm sick of seeing this ignorance. Quit being a fucking apologist and QUIT USING WINE. Don't let these corporations dictate the operating system you use or force you to use an emulator.
But I guess that makes me some kind of nutjob...to want support...well id software has no problems supporting open source and never has.
So, when Microsoft pressures people like me, I go somewhere else, and steve balmer cries "Come back, you idiots!! That's not fair!"
Google "guild wars dances"
Guild Wars is great if you consider that it has no online fee.. But the lands beautiful and it almost never crashes.
Oh, speaking of source modding, does the source sdk work under linux?
What wine is, is about 5 megs of executable code that translate Windows API calls into Linux API calls. Note that as technologies get more optimal, they tend to run the same and accept the same sorts of parameters.
WINE in short is a interface wrapper on linux and linux libraries that makes Linux look like Windows to a Windows application. The difference is how well Linux maps to Window with wine. WINE is possible because both Linux and Windows run on the Intel processor.
Valve carried on some of that by permitting people to play games like HL2 Deathmatch. BTW, the VOIP works over WINE. But Team Fortress is just cute.. It's not much more fun than Battlefield 1942.. And valve better realize that large maps are where the fun is.. But you can disagree..
