Could be a critique of how German and Japanese technology was well ahead of American/English/French/Chinese/Australian/Russian/Canadian/etc, as well as their production capacities, but a combination of good generals on our side, and shitty leaders ignoring the good generals on their side, helped us defeat what was, on paper, a vastly superior foe.
That, and because Cobra is a bunch of jerks, foreigners, gays, hair-metal band members, women, and creepy mutants.

Wouldn't say I got choked up, but it did show why Duke was field commander, and his dedication to the ideals of G.I. Joe. It was a great moment in this intro.

All hail the legend of G.I. Joe & Cobra, I'm a huge fan of G.I.Joe & I love Cobra, Cobra was a kick ass bad group of villains, & there no other super hero/cartoon, that will ever pass the legend of Cobra, not Batman, Superman or Spider-Man combined. I mean look at the number of Cobra Army, Troopers to the max, as well Vipers, B.A.T.'s, and Crimson Guards, plus enemies such as Zartan & The Drednoks, Destro, Baroness, Major Bludd, Cobra Commander, Serpentor, & the list just goes on. Cobra Rules!

hard to say as I was fan of both shows, Skeltor was more muscles to be skeleton, he-he, but Cobra Commander just had all the different looks and much bigger line of henchmen, so I have to Cobra Commander.

But production capacities were on our side. And their technology actually wasn't that superior to our own. If anything, I'd think the Joe's had superior technology to Cobra.

Because it was patriotic to defend a statue given to us by a country that at one time exemplified, along with us, the ideals of liberty.
Also, because the statue is an international symbol and such, so knocking it out would hit the whole world, where as attacking, say, the Washington Monument, or the Lincoln Memorial or something would just hurt America.
Remember. Back in the day, America really -was- Team America, fuck yeah. We were good guys when we weren't doing unethical black ops.
