Nah, he never said that. He was a huge fan of Al but was more into Uli Roth and Blackmore than Al. Actually, Yngwie's SPOTLIGHT article back in 1982 (or 83) listed 4 guitarists as influences: Blackmore, Roth, Holdsworth, Di Meola. He only later fabricated a Hendrix influence to distract people from his real sources.

Great to see that there are fusion fans out there who like fusion artist. Youtube seems to be the easiest way to access great albums by other groups like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Allen Holdworth, ect.'. I first heard Race with the Devil from my father's old album, and loved fusion every since. Where I live access to anvan-garde music has become extinct- If you classify fusion under the title Jazz, it create's a big stink for stuffy jazz fans.. I need to move away from the U.S...
