The Yardbirds' version is a pop song -this version ROCKS, its heavy, its metal before metal- this is Rod,Beck, Ron Wood and Mickey Waller starting a new harder sound- enjoy whatever you want but this version takes music on a different road

This is great! I love Beck and Stewart, but Ronnie Wood was the real gem of that line-up. IMO, Ronnie is one of the most over-looked bass players ever. He always grooves it up while giving the whole tune the stank that is rock. He's a great guitar player but I miss his lowend.

Think of what came out of this band, or what was prior to... you have Rod the Mod, you have Jeff (already a Yard Birds legend), and Ronnie "The Rolling Stone."

Good distinction. I think the Yardbird's version is a gem- tight, and quite dramatic, and does more justice to their lyrics. Beck and the boys are doing something very different with the tune. It's does rock. One quick related shot/opinion here: Beck was every bit as compelling a player as Hendrix.

Whole group was terrific.Beck could play like this and soulffully melodic like on "People get Ready".Woody's bassplaying was amazing (listen to Morning Dew too). Rod was the first true hard rock singer and Waller's unique drumming is also highlighted on "Every picture tells a story"
