There are reasons it's hard to find such a great rendition of this work as DTS has achieved here: It's technically demanding, with everything from the most delicate coloratura to the ultimate dynamic ferocity of the middle section. Also, the range of moods and succession of contrasts within so short a space is frankly beyond the ability of most pianists to interpret and communicate credibly. This is a rare performance. No wonder he won! And no wonder his peers regard him so highly.

IMHO the evidence is that Pogorelich is 100
times more interesting and poetic than this
pianist. The competitions system is industry,
having not in common with art.

Also in this nocturne (I heard recently from him) Pogorelich demonstrates to be at another level of musical poetry. No comparation, this
is industrial pianism, Ivo is a poet.

In that competition the (ridicolous) jury had
no problems: Ivo cut off without doubt.
But this is only an example of how many competitions are unuseful or dangerous for music. Good to build an average, industrial
mainstream taste, a poison for freedom and
poetry. No one (a part, partially, Bunin) of
the Chopin competition winners (some imbarassing names....) is among my favourite
pianists. Industry, advertising triumph of mainstream taste, mafia....art is otherwhere

Good performance. Dang Thai Son seems to have some understanding of the flowing nature of Chopin's music, although he sometimes lacks percussive emphasis.
