those drums came from a pawn shop in L.A. when they were recording the second LP...real calfskin heads etc...pick up a copy of Levon's book (forgot the title!) it's got all kinds of cool inside info re equipment, instruments, gigs, recording sessions etc...this is an awesome film...one of my all time favorite ensembles...THE Band...great stuff

This stuff is a little before my time...started talking music and they said to look up The Band. Heard of them (i'm 41 ). Love lots of Piano...can you tell me what other songs to check out. I'm not too crazy about the singing but the musicians are really great. Not a Dylan fan either but I love his lyrics. What a TON of talent!

Let me just share with you ladies and gents that Levon is still ROCKIN! I saw him in Baltimore when he toured this summer, he does a "Midnight Ramble" at his place and word has it he is a gracious host. Everyone brings a little food for the evening and their instruments and the like and hang out in Woodstock, NY in his beautiful barn.

I had a young & stupid crush on Robbie Robertson. Funny, now it's totally on another singer and this guy I happened to be sitting with in the Holiday Inn with a bunch of friends one night after the festival we all attend and there on the TV was the Rock Hall of Fame induction and there in the audience on TV was Robbie Robertson. I said, "that looks like Robbie Robertson," and my singer friend said, "it is." Funny, and my BG angel lives in the same city now as Robbie.

Check out "The Band-Waltz". Their last concert- I think the entire thing is on YouTube. Some personal favorites- The Weight, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, I Shall be Released, and It Makes No Difference. Listen to those, and then let us know about the singing. I think they probably have three of the best vocalists in rock history in the same band! I will agree with you though- this particular song ain;t one of my favorites- but its still The Band!!! :))

I've seen other footage from this source in a Robbie Robertson documentary I recorded from The Disney Channel of all places! also really clean color footage onstage with Dylan in '66 some of which you'll find on the 'No Direction Home' film by Martin Scorcese

actually Robbie sang in 4 Band's songs- "Bessie Smith", "Knockin' Lost John", "To Kingdom Come" and "Out Of The Blue".

Got to see Levon this year in NY, rocking...I think the Band's one of the most underrated bands ever. It's real and raw, not plastic shiny bullshit, that Long Black Veil is sweet, too bad it's cut off.

I really think this is better than the version on the album - I like Garth's organ work a little better on this version, and Robby's solo is a LOT better than the album version.

I disagree. The album version is the best thing i've ever heard and the solo is so much better and the bass is more prominent throughout. Sorry mate. But yeah, it still sounds good no doubt!!
