I don't know how old you are, but the Small Faces are part of my youth. I don't rate them as high as any of those others you list but fuck me I never thought they sucked! Is there nothing in between sucking and ruling, then? Does it have to be one or the other?

Regardless of what you deem "success", to most of the sane people who still live in the real world, the Small Faces are every bit as important as those bands you mentioned, perhaps more so. Do not forget that rock was not invented by Jimmy Page, or Mick Jagger. It took a lot of acts, a long time and a lot of influences to create The Stones or Led Zeppelin. A lot of bands you like harken back to bands that you deem to "suck".
So sit down, shut up listen to some music, and learn more of the past.

I have listened and they do suck. This notion that all art must have some redeming value is goofy, sometimes its just bad. And bands like the Beatles and the Stones and Zeppelin and the Who are just that much better plain and simple.

I grew up listening the stones, the beatles just like many of you. Small faces songs like all or nothing, tin soldier and lazy sunday sounded very familiar to me when I re-discovered them in the late 70's and early 80's. So, I'm sure I had heard them when they were first released in the 60's when I was only around 10. Only that perhaps they didn't get as much airplay in Hong Kong.

To Me, the difference between the small faces, and the stones and the beatles, is that the small faces songs are songs that I really love while the stones and the beatles are memories.

Not all art has some redeeming value, for example a lot of modern art and pop acts are absolutely shit.
If you compare the songs The Small Faces made in their short career compared to the ones other bands released in similar timeframes, I daresay you'd realise how good this band truly was. You're comparing the peak of Zep or the Who's career with what was essentially the first glimpse of recognition and fame for a band that broke up too early.

This isn't a discussion upon the roots of popular music, so I didn't feel it needed to be said that black music was what influenced the bands. The point I was making was that the Small Faces were not a mere footnote in history. For example:
The Small Faces + Jeff Beck Group -> Humble Pie + The Faces -> Rod Stewart + Ronnie Wood in The Rolling Stones.
All names anyone with any interest in music should recognise. And they're all linked.

See below for my flow chart of musical greatness. And as for Bob Seger being mediocre... he's been an influence on a varied spread of artists, and written a number of good songs. Rosalie, Old Time Rock and Roll and Turn The Page are but three. The Boss has had a long and successful career, full of hits and influence, which I'm not going to delve into.
But I'm not going to argue further, it's obvious you're not going to see sense.
