Same here,I am an old woman of 40 now but had a very wonderful older sister who took me to see The Jam aged 12 and 4 more times after this. Really did say everything me felt at the time and a real snapshot of what life was like back then can be found in their lyrics. I annoy the hell out of my kids by playing The Jam whilst doing housework must be unnerving to hear your mum singing & swearing loudly to these songs...excellent stuff

Fucking brilliant! Keep on keeping on into your 50s and onwards. And yes I agree that he spoke to a lot of us at that certain time in our lives. I wouldn't say he saved my life, but he helped me in my English test when I recalled "Rise like lions from your slumber in unvanquishable number"" in a question about Shelly. If it hadn't been for Sound Affects I might not have got that one right. :-)

Unfortunately they were "bigger" than the Jam (much as it pains me to say it). Just because of their popularity in the USA, the Jam could never break the USA. It's the same as U2, I hate the fact that they are so big when they haven't done anything that special - I wonder if it's the Irish connection that made them so big in the USA?

I am Irish and have been a fan of The Jam since they hit the scene. I was a mod complete with Vespa, Parka, Side Vents etc. Loved every second esp. scooter runs. The music appealed to everyone in shitholes with no rosey future whether English, Irish or whatever. I also like U2 but they said nothing to me in my teens. God bless The Jam.

Agree, Jackd36 - it's probably the Irish connection that made U2 so big in the States (I'm a Yank, though ashamed of that fact insofar as the Jam's lack of popularity is concerned). The Jam were far greater than U2 ever was, even if they weren't "bigger."

i had a boating blaazer, but i always thought i was the punk in a suit. punk is a usa fasion item, i ant one of them. your spot on about u2. they will follow lol, i communicate with somebody for one second,i think thats the start and my dad was a taxman lol, i saw them alli pally 1982 i was 13 , weller trod on my hand, i did not wash it for a week.even if pauls sold out , he has laid the platform, the orwell in the jam is no lie.
