Continental Drift & Plate Tectonics (clip)

Uploaded by: phoenixfilmandvideo
Video Description:
Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics explores the inner earth and its surface. The 1906 San Francisco earthquake and the Mount St. Helen's volcanic eruption are explained and illustrated through narration and spectacular historical footage. The program also explores the theory of continental drift as well as that of magnetic north and many other phenomena. 18 minutes, color.

Yes, theory > fact. A theory is supported by facts. When most people use the word "theory," they mean to use "hypothesis," which is an untested idea. "Expanding Earth" is a hypothesis. And it was debunked decades ago, but there are still people who believe it. But the leading proponent of expanding earth hypothesis is not a scientist, he's a comic book artist.

ok i've wasted a good few hours of my life watching most planet theory videos and although they explain a lot the do not explain it all as like most theorys but i still believe in plate tectonics.

As I remember from ... ( 4 months ago by abeldejong)
As I remember from my college days, science is all about theories, which never can be proven as facts, only falsified. So "good" theories are theories which CAN be falsified by prediction, but are not falsified by the outcome of experiments. I see a discussion here which has more to do with beliefs.
Okay lets settle ... ( 2 months ago by buzzeyed)
Okay lets settle the arguement here. The earth is no older than 25,000 years. How did I figure that out? Well the earths magnetic field is decaying at an extraordinary rate so much that 25,000 years ago the earths magnetic field would have generated too much heat for life to exist knocking off, evolution, pangea, and other supercontinents. I agree the continents move, but they aren't going in any specific direction. Besides there is no proof of why these continents move anyway.
Scientists will say ... ( 2 months ago by buzzeyed)
Scientists will say, "Well we find magnetic reversals all the over the earth in rocks and ice and cooled down lava flows indicating the earths magnetic poles flipped. That's simply impossible because to do that you have to stop the earths core rotating and start it in the other direction. Can that happen without intervention. NO. All these scientists did was find different intesity levels of magnetic polarity, no reversals. Don't fall for that propagander.
These scientists ... ( 2 months ago by buzzeyed)
These scientists also date these reversals on the geological column or time scale(which ever) which also a load of propagander. You can't determine the age of something without asking the person who made it. It's simple. Scientists will dig up a dinosaur bone and say 95 million years ago... bla bla bla. I'll just simply say, Were you there? Huh. And he'll say of course not. Well then how do you know how old the bone is then? And he'll say because of the layer we find it in.
And I'll say, How ... ( 2 months ago by buzzeyed)
And I'll say, How do you date the layer. And he'll say by the dinosaur bone. I mean come on how stupid is that. It's all based on a big guess. Besides the geological column is nowhere to be found on the earth. The geological column would have to be at least 100km thick to exist and thats ludicrous, the earths crust isn't even that thick. Do you know that recent basalt and granitic crust analysis' shows that the earth never cooled from a ball of lava. Bet that comes as a surprise.

Yes it is a Theory. Moreover those "i believe because telly says so" ppl below should learn this. Try asking geologists bout this and Growing Planets Theory. You will be overwhelmed by scientists that actually say, that Growing Planets Theory explains much more then Continental Drift Theory. I did. On 2 different universities i've found geologists - doctors and proffesors wich not only support this theory but teaches it 2 students. I was surprised myself actually.
