Beer Pour - 1st ever compuer graphics - "The American Brew"

This could be the first ever complete computer graphics beer pour, an entire glass filling with beer. It's the title animation of The American Brew, a film by Roger Sherman, to be shown on A &E on April 7th at 10:00 PM. In creating the pour, graphic designer Marcelo Cermak, learned it may never have been done before.
It was produced with RealFlow, a 3-D Liquid Simulator particle-based program, which uses physical properties to control the behavior of the particles. They actually interact with each other and react according to impulses, forces and accelerations. Early animations had foam bouncing out of the glass, creating a simulated, wet mess.
The sequence calculated 250,000 particles in the 14 second simulation, creating a fine polygonal mesh with thousands of polygons. It took more than a dozen simulations to create the final look, realistic beer pouring into the glass. 40 hours of rendering was needed to see the results each time the animation was altered. The most difficult task was creating the beer foam, which was rendered against a white background, where the foam was harder to define.
The result is such a realistic animation, few will realize how much time and effort went into it. RealFlow has been used in various movie productions such as Poseidon, The Guardian and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
