Not to give Putin undue credit since Yeltsin wasnt a very tough act to follow, he still did a lot. Relative stabilization of the economy (the average mid.class Russian now makes x2 that of the Yeltsin years), Sochi Olympics, and nationalizing support and faith in Russian leadership once again. After the mess that was left in the 90s, it isn't fair to expect a 180 degree turnaround just yet. I'm not Russian, but ask any Russian citizen what they would rather have -personal liberties or stability.

Stability comes in the form restoring political institutions and their credibility. The Russian government is still not very accountable to their people, but life is significantly better than the Yeltsin years. Did teachers and students roll around in cash during the 90's? No, neo-liberal policies were destroying the nation's industries. Putin has at least taken control and if history shows anything, is that Russian people are best under stern direction and an Iron fist.

Bush being reelected gives insight into how painfully dumb most of Americans are. We picked a president who we'd want to have a beer with, not one who is built to run a country. There is no sense of national unity, no value of heritage, and adults only care about things like sports teams. Personally, Im not a fan of capitalism, I like Putin because he is a strong leader. Democracy only applies to a country that is in internal conflict among political factions and leadership is watered down.

No, nothing like Stalin. He is a modern Russian leader. Russian through and through. He is serious about Russia's capitalist future. He knows what needs to be done for Russia and just gets on and dose it. He has the Russia's best interests at heart. The Russian people must be so proud of him.

No, actually, Putin is still with Serbia. He is building a gas/oil pipeline through Serbia, which he knows very well will get Serbia lots of money.
